Ithra (Ith´ruh)

The father of Joab’s cousin Amasa who served as chief of staff for Absalom in his rebellion against his father, David. Ithra is called an Israelite in (2Sam 17:25) (see NRSV note), but an Ishmaelite in (1Chr 2:17), where the NRSV translates his name as Jether.
