A tree of the genus Populus. The white poplar or the storax is the tree mentioned in (Gen 30:37), where its color is of consequence. It grew in groves with other trees (Hos 4:13) and symbolized solid life (Hos 14:5).

37Then Jacob took fresh rods of poplar and almond and plane, and peeled white streaks in them, exposing the white of the rods.

13They sacrifice on the tops of the mountains,
