Varghese was a Christian painter and batik artist from Selangor, Malaysia. Her work is colorful and merges eastern and western traditions. Batik is an ancient method of wax-resist dying fabric found in many countries. The process of batik involves dyeing the fabric having first applied wax to the parts to be left undyed.
