Stefan Lochner, Last Judgement (German: Weltgericht), c. 1435, tempera on oak, Wallraf-Richartz-Museum, Cologne.
Lochner’s Last Judgement was originally a three-panel piece but the outside panels have been cut up and scattered in different collections. This center section shows Jesus, Mary, and St John at the top with two angels blowing long trumpets that signal judgement. On the bottom, humanity is being divided into those going to heaven and those going to hell.
